Super Fuzz

Not to be
confused with Super Cops (CD
reviewed elsewhere on this site), Sergio Corbucci’s Super Fuzz (1980, aka Super
Snooper) tries to be a funny comedy about a police officer (Terence Hill)
with superpowers and an unseen female chorus singing the title when he goes
into action ala the Lynda Carter Wonder
Woman. Even with Ernest Borgnine, who
did so many Italian and Spanish productions at this point, this is not even campy
enough to be funny.
Can
Rookie Dave Speed (Hill) save Miami? At
the time of the cocaine explosion not portrayed in this film, who knows, but he
could not save the lack of script from the very bad curio. Whether in English or any other language,
this is bad and the kind of thing that killed the counterculture. This one is only for the ultra curious and
culturally curious.
The 1.78
X 1 image is soft, second generation and lacks detail, though even the
secondary color suggests how good this might have looked in 35mm. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is harsh and a few
generations down, but listenable. Extras
include text on the cast, stills, trailers for other Hill films and “other
classic moments” which aren’t.
