Bikini Destination – Triple Fantasy (Blu-ray)

A popular
series on the HDNet cable/satellite network, Bikini Destination is HD’s answer to swimsuit magazines and
Magnolia Pictures is even ahead of the XXX companies by releasing Bikini Destination – Triple Fantasy to
Blu-ray among their first releases in the format.
Running
about 90 minutes, these are very beautiful women, enough so that you can spend
all that time looking at them. I commend
the company for producing classy entertainment, but there is something
additionally funny about this release.
When you get over how good these women look, consider when you see this
if the camera is as interested in the “sexiness” of HD shooting as it is of the
women themselves. At first, I thought I
was imagining this, but the travelogue effect becomes more obvious in repeat
viewings. Well, at least it is a fun
disc.
The 1080i
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image just makes its letter grade, with that
beautiful shooting looking pretty good, though once again, daylight still never
looks like daylight since HD has the Video Red limit and you can imagine with
all the nudity how that can be an issue with flesh tones. This is a cleaner shoot than many, though.
The sound
comes in DTS 2.0 and lesser Dolby Digital 2.0, so you have the choices, but the
DTS is warmer, matching the locations and camera subjects. This is not the greatest 2.0 mix in the world
with its acceptable Pro Logic surrounds, but works nicely and is professional
enough like PCM 2.0 Stereo off of an old 12” LaserDisc. The only extras are some HD trailers, but the
main attraction is the eye candy and on that level, Bikini Destination – Triple Fantasy delivers.
