The Sentinel (2006/Blu-ray)
Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C- Film: D
This is
our third time looking at the disappointing Clark Johnson film adaptation of
Gerard Petievich’s book The Sentinel
(2006) and the only thing worst than it aging badly and surprisingly quickly at
that, is what a missed opportunity it ultimately was for all. Our previous coverage of the film includes
these reviews:

Standard DVD

With
nothing new to say about this dud, the question remains as to whether it is
worth seeing upgraded.
The 1080p
2.35 X 1 digital MPEG-2 @ 18 MBPS High Definition image may be an improvement
over the standard DVD, but along with some improved depth, detail and color
comes a more pronounced generic presence of image. However, it barely reaches its letter grade. Like Johnson’s S.W.A.T. (reviewed on Blu-ray elsewhere on this site), he insists
that this blue look is somehow conducive to “serious action” and the “adult
world” in a way that would have never flown on Homicide. The DTS HD Master
Audio lossless 192kHz/24-bit 5.1 mix is also better, but with or without the
best DTS HD chip, the mix shows it limits the clearer it gets. The same mixed extras from the DVD are
carried over to this edition, though the original theatrical trailer is now in
HD.
