Rock Relief: Live in Concert (2005/Katrina Benefit)

Picture: C     Sound: B-     Extras: D     Concert: C

A sincere effort from Rock acts like Eddie Money, Rick Derringer, Mark Farner, Dickey Betts, Dee Snyder, Loverboy and even the very non-Rock Michael Bolton on February 5th 2003, Rock Relief: Live in Concert was taped at Universal Studios’ Orlando, Florida location to benefit victims of the disaster that did not need to happen: the man-made damage in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina.

Each act is shown performing 2 – 4 of their hits except Bolton, who performs three of someone else’s as usual, particularly ruining this program.  However, this is not long enough, involving enough and it needs to be to serve the purpose of raising funds for this insane disaster.  Snyder only does one song, when they all should have done sets much longer than you get here.  However, there are sparse moments fans light like and if you are not interested, you can just donate directly to a reputable charity serving the ravaged area, though one of them is actually in question as of this posting so do your research.

The 1.33 X 1 image was shot on analog professional NTSC video and is incredibly soft for a recent taping.  Detail is poor, colors inconsistent and it makes it look older than it really is.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has somewhat healthy Pro Logic surrounds, but cannot save the picture.  The result looks like it was mastered on a personal computer.  There are no extras, though for a charity piece, there should have been.
