With the
late 80’s and early 1990’s full of shows like Boy Meets World, Step by
Step, and Family Matters, Full House was right up there with
must-see-family-TV. As a slight
refresher, Full House takes place in
San Francisco where Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) is trying to raise his three girls
DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle after their mother’s unexpected death, with the
help of their two uncles Joey (Dave Coulier) and Jesse (John Stamos). Throughout the five seasons released on DVD
to date, the girls have grown up significantly with DJ now entering High
School, Michelle entering Kindergarten, and unwilling Stephanie learning to
share a room with her younger sister Michelle.
In The Complete Fifth Season
of Full House the House gets a
little fuller, with Uncle Jesse now married to Becky from Danny’s morning show,
Becky and Jesse decide to have children, resulting in the birth of twin boys
and bringing to house’s total up to a whopping nine, way too happy, people.
The show
is full of firsts and seemingly happy moments with Michelle learning to ride a
bike, DJ learning to drive a car, and Uncle Joey learning to be a TV
personality as Ranger Joe (keep trying Dave Coulier). With a show that is such a part of many of
our lives how can this show go wrong?
The show has basically been in constant syndication since it went off
the air, and now is even considered classic TV (weird to think about). Overall, this is a show of high spirits that
lifted many people up and still gives many of us a chuckle here and there, even
with Bob Saget’s corny jokes.
The
technicals of this DVD set are not very impressive. The picture is presented in a way too basic
1.33 X 1 Full Screen image shot in professional NTSC analog video that is often
not very crisp and has many color issues, though better than those episodes
seen in syndication. The sound is
equally dull in a standard Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo that has high/low issues
and often times sounds distant. I would
have loved some extras, but sadly there are none; for such a memorable sitcom
this reviewer would have liked to see plenty of interviews, trivia games, and
much more. Also the DVD creators hastily
did not give an episode selection page, but oh well!
On the
whole, this reviewer loved viewing these old episodes, finding them to be
memorable and still able to hold much heart and care free fun. Though the series was never comedy gold, it
still made managed to make this reviewer chuckle at ‘Tanner Family Fun Night’
and the plethora of ‘Oh I remember that’ moments. Fans have coaxed the studio to continually
and quickly release these sets with their strong support of the series. Any doubters of Full House and the good fun that it brings this reviewer says
