How ugly
and crazy is the affair that remains the Enron Collapse? After Enron
– The Smartest Guys In The Room (reviewed elsewhere on this site) hit the
nail on the head about what really happened, the story is still unfolding and
nothing has really been done to prevent the same kind of mega-lying,
mega-thievery and mega-cover-up to happen again. As a result, we have Memron (2005), a comic mockumentary that tries to capture the
absurdity of what happened in a way that makes the subtle exaggerations
constantly ask the viewer to wake up; asking the if you get how bad and absurd
the crisis is.
On that
level, it does not waver and plays itself through its 79 minutes length. If you are in the mood or like that style,
you will laugh and find this funny.
However, by painting itself in this corner, it cannot do much else. However, since so much needs to be said about
this disaster, Nancy Hower wisely sticks to her guns because there are so many
layers of this onion to peel off and we have only just begun. After all, when you have something as ugly as
combining “highlights” Vietnam, Watergate and Iran-Contra combined happening
and most people getting away with it, something is very wrong.
The
letterboxed 1.66 X 1 image is soft and has aliasing problems so common that
this would get a lower rating if they were any worse. The Dolby Digital 2.0 is simple stereo at
best and is a mixed recording. There are
no extras except an awkward trailer. As
for the title, it itself is funny, combining words like moron, Enron and
membrane. If only we can remember this
crisis so we don’t repeat it again.
