Carlos Santana Presents Blues At Montreux 2004 (DVD-Video Set)

Picture: B-     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Concerts: B

After being practically burned out with Blues DVDs, Carlos Santana Presents Blues At Montreux 2004 is a nice break and change of pace from the “we are her seriously playing” shows that seem forced and often strained.  Instead, Santana presents three legends at different times and the results are strong.  The tracks for each are as follows:

DVD One - Bobby Parker

1. Straight Up No Chaser

2. Break It Up

3. Breaking Up Somebody's Home

4. Nothing But The Blues

5. So Glad I Found You

6. I Ain't Superstitious

7. It's Unfair

8. Going Down Slow

9. Chill Out (featuring Carlos Santana)

10. Mellow Down Easy (featuring Carlos Santana)

11. Watch Your Step (featuring Carlos Santana)

DVD Two - Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown

1. Bits & Pieces

2. Strange Things Happen

3. I'm Beginning To See The Light

4. Sunrise Cajun Style

5. Honey Boy

6. Further On Up The Road

7. I've Got My Mojo Working (featuring Carlos Santana & Buddy Guy)

8. Drifter (featuring Carlos Santana)

9. Grape Jelly (featuring Carlos Santana)

10. Okie Dokie Stomp (featuring Carlos Santana & Nile Rodgers)

DVD Three - Buddy Guy

1. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl

2. Louise McGhee

3. Done Got Old

4. Hoochie Coochie Man

5. Fever

6. Drowning On Dry Land

7. Stormy Monday (featuring Carlos Santana)

8. Jam Session 1 (featuring Carlos Santana & Buddy Parker)

9. So Many Roads So Many Trains (featuring Carlos Santana & Bobby Parker)

10. Jam Session 2 (featuring Carlos Santana, Nile Rodgers & Bobby Parker)

I thought they were impressive and I am not even a big Blues fan, so this should impress fans.  Each are anamorphically enhanced at 1.78 X 1 in what seems like digital High Definition of some kind, likely 1080i.  However, the sound can be rough in its PCM 2.0 16bit/48kHz, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 mixes.  Still, it is an important set of concerts doing Blues like we rarely see anymore and that is reason enough to see the set.
