Golf and
cooking, two subjects some people find boring.
Of course, everyone loves to eat, but some still do not want to work to
make good food. Fortunately, a new waves
of programs and cable channels have been changing the food part, but the
increasingly popular game (and sport) of Golf still has a reputation as
“boring” to shake. Enter Jacky Pluton, The Fairway Gourmet, who by his own admission
is not the best golfer but is more than capable in the food department.
Each
episode of his show starts with an introduction, goes to a golf lesson, than
concludes with a cooking part. He is a
good host and has some amusing moments, then becomes a sort of Robin Leech in
the ways he goes from terrific location to awesome location; the kind of places
anyone would want to visit. What the
show communicates is how nice & laidback the good life can be, than golf is
as much of a lifestyle as anything and that true enjoyment is not something
that is so forced like recent media since the 1980s had erroneously preached.
On top of
this, he visiting stores related to the lifestyle, including that of food
markets, vineyards and even some book and antique places. Pluton is a good host and this is a nice,
classy set for those who love to enjoy good things. The
Fairway Gourmet is like a coffee table book or glossy magazine among a
healthy market of such books, plus one of the better productions out there. It does both food and golf well, plus is just
pleasant throughout.
The 1.33
X 1 image is softer than one would like, especially considering the beautiful
locations the show visits and all the good food Pluton makes. Color is still on the consistent side, which
makes the greenery of the golf courses easier to watch. Since these are not shot in HD, forget about
getting detail in the “sports” moments, though Pluton would joke you were only
getting so much action from him there.
There are no extras, but fans of comfortable lifestyles will have plenty
