Hollywood Legends – Leading Ladies (Series Box)
Picture: C Sound: C+ Extras: D Episodes: B
A
compilation of episodes from an old series produced for VHS and even TV
distribution, Hollywood Legends
compiled all kind of facts, stills, bits, theatrical film trailers and any
other footage to create profiles on key people and films in the business. We have already looked at the Couples and Rivals sets and now take a look at a five-DVD set called Leading Ladies.
The only
thing that holds back the 1.33 X 1 presentations are the age of the
NTSC-originated sources. If it was not
for that, the content would deserve a higher rating and it would not surprise
me if these were upgraded in the near future.
All 50 (yes, 50!) programs hold up very well, though many of the
subjects are still around and a few others left us since their programs
folded. The great lineup includes:

- Ginger Rogers
- Bette Davis
- Joan Crawford
Disc Two

Disc Four

The mix
of footage is nicely edited and the best aspect of all of them is that they say
and show things the vast majority of DVD supplements and other documentary and
featurette programming would never dare begin to discuss. This is why it is such a must-see set. There is also a male star companion set, though
we could not cover it since our copy has pressing errors. There are no extras either, but we think you
will find this so loaded with goodies, that you’ll barely notice the
difference.
