A genius,
sarcastic, self involved, painkiller addicted, doctor; this show practically
writes itself. House is one of the most interesting and innovative series to hit
the air waves recently. Currently with
Season Three, House continues to compel and entertain a solid audience. Season
One introduced the world to the interesting character of Dr. Gregory House,
along with his crack team of specialist.
Where Season One set up the
series, Season Two propels the
series into greatness, with in depth and complicated medical mysteries coupled
with deep character development for the plethora of personalities that flood
the series. Dr. Gregory House is rude,
does what he wants when he wants, and somehow manages to “pull the rabbit out
of the hat” every time for these seemingly bizarre medical cases, these cases
ranging anywhere from killer mind spores to gun shots, Gregory House solves
them all. Where House’s staff are
definitely on different wave length then him, slowly but surely they are
learning to see through his insanity to find his genius. House:
Season Two highlights the array of reasons why the First Season captured the hearts and minds of millions, but creates
new and engaging storylines that bring the series to an even higher level of
excellence.
House uses the arrogant/a**hole formula
to create a character that the audience loves and concurrently hates. Where the audience loves the bad boy attitude
entangled with pure genius, Gregory House’s self destructive nature of
destroying personal relationships, work relationships, and his own health
leaves the audience asking why? The love
that viewers experience for this character goes beyond his ability to solve
great medical mysterious, but also there is an undying hope that the hints of
goodness we see in this man will shine through for him to find peace. House is
not the first series to use this self destructive demeanor to create an
enthralling character, this concept being emphasized in such great characters
as Dr. Perry Cox on the NBC hit sitcom Scrubs.
The
technical aspects of this 6 Disc, 17hr 24 min set are quite excellent. The picture is presented in a clear and crisp
1.78 X 1 Anamorphic Widescreen, only very rarely being too bright. The sound is not as impressive but still
maintains a strong quality, presented in an adequate Dolby Digital 5.1 sound
that at times is too light. The extras
for this series DVD set are interesting and well presented. There is a segment which explores the
mentality of the lead character and the series as a whole entitled “An Evening
with HOUSE.” Also there are excellent
extras such as Bloopers, Commentaries, Comedic Alternate Takes, and much, much
more. Overall, this is an impressive DVD
set to compliment and excellent series. Universal got this set right.
Dr.
Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is an impressive character played by an even more
impressive actor. His sarcasm and
intelligence penetrate every scene. This
is a 24 episode set of some of the best TV around today, which is sure to
thrill and captivate. Not only do the
other actors compliment Hugh Laurie’s already stunning performance, but bring
that extra something to the series that no other crew of actors could,
heart. If you are a fan this is a must
have to watch, again and again. If you
are a new comer or never heard of House,
now is the time to jump into the chaotic world and mind of Dr. Gregory
House. This show is a prescription for
greatness.
