Joe Jewell Quartet – Every Note Counts (CD)

Sound: B     Music: B

One of the better Jazz albums I have heard lately is Joe Jewell Quartet’s Every Note Counts (2006) offering 11 songs, some of which are interesting revisions of some classics.  Highlights include a slowed take on the Bobby Hebb hit Sunny from back in 1966, I’ve Grown Accustomed To Your Face from the musical My Fair Lady and Thelonious Monk’s In Walked Bird.

They are good and the mood, consistency and attitude extends to all the tracks.  Fortunately, they play back nicely too.  The PCM 2.0 16bit/44.1kHz Stereo is clean and clear like you would expect a Jazz CD to be, produced by Jewell & Jim Linahon, who engineered, mixed and mastered it.  You can go to www.JoeJewellGuitar.com for more information.
