We just
covered the regular DVD version of James Gunn’s Slither, at the following link:

Believing
it will be a video hit for the “Horror Youth” crowd, Universal has decides to
issue the film in one of their trusty HD-DVD/DVD Combo format editions. The DVD side is virtually identical to the
DVD side here in sound extras and just about all. The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is
about the same, though the one on this Combo version is ever so slightly less
solid.
As for
the 1080p digital High Definition version, it is a slight improvement and a bit
of a joke to do something where the digital visual effects look low-def to
begin with. The result is that it is a
slight improvement, but also shows more flaws from the final cut. The good just outdoes the bad to recommend
the HD side, including a Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 mix that is just a little
better (but less so) than the standard Dolby Digital 5.1 on the DVD side here
to stand-along basic DVD. The sound
design is only so good to begin with.
If you
are a fan of the film, you’ll want this HD version.
