Sex
comedy is not easy to do; especially now with the media and some music genres
having their “minds in the gutter” and all somehow dodging actual
sensuality. Caveh Zahedi tries to pull
off a Woody Allen-like tale of sorts with I
Am A Sex Addict, a 2006 Comedy about how he becomes a sex addict and how
absurd the situation gets as it gets worse.
The
problem is that it wears thin quickly, often reminds us of too many better
films or better scenes in good films (the sex addict group is no match for all
the psychological groups Edward Norton goes to in David Fincher’s Fight Club, which gets more out of the
situation) to the point that you wonder if this is leading to anything. I give him points for boldness without going
down the drain, but the comedy sometimes glosses over a deeper story to tell
and the result is a flattened 99 minutes that eventually does not know when to
end. The ending does not work either.
The 1.33
X 1 image was shot on digital video of some sort that is not HD and likely has
some kind of NTSC link. The transfer
here is on the detail challenged side, looking a generation down and only saved
by some good moments of color. The Dolby
Digital 2.0 Stereo is simple, dialogue-based with its endless first-person
narration and has no surrounds. The only
extra is on the shooting of three scenes, but the feature might just be enough.
