Though
France’s Eiffel Tower is a legend, Simon Brooks’ The True Legend Of The Eiffel Tower (20o5) is a sometimes silly
rendition of the story of how the Tower was built and almost was not. One annoying problem is having characters
saying too often “it will never get built” as twice was more than
sufficient. It also stretches to around
WWI, which is not bad.
There are
even efforts in the 90 minutes to show the early stages of construction, the
challenges, how new some of the materials were and the risks it took physically
to get it built. The problem is (budget
or not) that not enough of this aspect of the story is told, though Mr. Eiffel
has other problems of his own we do learn about. This is not a great show, but it has a few
moments that those with interest might look into.
The 1.78
X 1 image is poorly transferred with artifacts and other noise, as well as poor
definition from whatever the source was. This originated in digital High Definition of
some kind. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
has no surrounds, though the volume level it is transferred in is good. There are no extras.
