When you
hear about Hitler’s Bunker, it always has a certain darkness connected to
it. There have been good dramatic
tellings and many bad, even sexploitive ones about the infamous locale where he
eventually took his own life. Death In The Bunker – The True Story Of
Hitler’s Downfall (2005) has more never before seen footage as we get a new
perspective of just how long Hitler was down there, how much it put him further
out of touch with reality and how that time spent led to even more lives all
around being lost than his German followers would have agreed to.
There are
also new exclusive interviews with people who were close to Hitler and somehow
did not go to jail or were executed for war crimes, as well as a general
demystification of the kind of hype that glorified The Bunker and by
association, Hitler and The Nazis that none of us need. This is a solid 80-minutes-long program that
turns out to be one of the more key of the endless Disc, books and other items
on the subject. That is not easy.
The 1.33
X 1 image is in decent shape, comprised of mostly stock footage of the time,
including some full color footage The Nazis had become known for toying with in
the early days. The Dolby Digital 2.0 is
simple stereo and works just fine with the two narrators going back and
fourth. There are no extras, but the show
is very interesting and one to be seen if you are taking in media on the subject.
