Has the
Police Procedural dulled the British TV thriller? There is an argument for it, but add
melodrama and you get something as messed up as Bloodlines, a 2005 two-parter about a young female police detective
(Emma Pierson) trying to find out how her mother died and if it was her father
who was the real murderer. He is finally
out of jail and wants to clear his name, but it will not be that easy.
Without
giving anything away, she even has a brother trying to help her, but Mike
Cullen’s teleplay is more interested in drama than mystery or any real crime
case, though the syndrome of limited mystery brought on by Police Procedurals
may have suggested to him that he was not doing this. Director Philip Martin also has little clue
of how to make this work or take this into a more interesting direction. The result is a big disappointment that is
best skipped.
The 1.33
X 1 image is on the soft side, with a lack of detail and overall dullness to
the look of this recently-produced show.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is not bad, but has its limits and no
surrounds. It makes one wonder if this
sounds better from the original source.
