Scorpius Gigantus

Roger
Corman will try to cash in on anything, as he famously did when he made the Carnosaur films against Steven
Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise. Showing his recent boredom and lack of energy
with filmmaking yet again, we get Scorpius
Gigantus, his pathetic answer to Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers. Directed
by Tommy Withrow, this is even worse than the hugely lame Troopers live-action TV series (semi-live action considering all
the pathetic digital) and hugely wasted opportunity that was Starship Troopers 2. That Hollywood is producing junk as bad as
Corman’s worse is a disaster beyond this DVD, yet speaks volumes about it.
The 1.33
X 1 image is really, really awful with noise, major detail and color troubles
all over the place. We have seen VHS
look much better. The Dolby Digital 5.1
mix is really a badly processed simple stereo track with all kinds of limits
and other problems. It is also weak and
just an overall mess. There are no
extras and if there is a sequel, it should be considered an act of insanity.
