JAG – The Complete First Season

I was
never a fan of JAG (which stands for
Judge Advocate General) and debuted on NBC.
It was soon cancelled, but found a disturbingly long second life on CBS
and lasted much longer than it should have.
After all those years, few still really know who star David James
Elliott is, but because of its often silly set-up and wacky variation of a
pro-military stance, CBS stuck by the show.
The question I had was, was the show ever any good?
I was not
a fan at the time it came out and looking back, I am amazed how forgettable and
lame the show is to the point that I cannot believe it was ever even
greenlighted. This 6-DVD set has 21
torturous hours and is the kind of show that makes you wonder why so many
better other older TV shows are not on DVD yet.
Even the “rarely seen Skeleton
Crew” episode is a not that much better, though it may have been held back
in syndication because of political purposes.
Not very impressive at all, this is for diehard fans only.
The 1.33
X 1 is yet another one of those shows that even if it was shot on film, the
image was finished in post digitally to make doing credits, visual effects and
other headings easier. Unfortunately,
that produces all kinds of digititis that ruins the picture. It is not like this show had the best look
but it is made worse by the old NTSC video.
This will have to be redone for HD.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is weak, even with Pro Logic
surrounds. I was surprised how weak, but
this show was never known for its sonics.
Extras include commentary on the pilot and three featurettes that are
only so good.
