Soft Machine Legacy: Live At The New Morning Paris (CD Set)
Sound: B-
Music: B-
After several DVD-Video releases from the New Morning
Paris series, we have our first CD version of one of the concerts from
Inakustik, a major import name in music concerts. In this case, we never received the DVD version of Soft
Machine Legacy live, especially with this concert. The ten long, and often slow (making them
longer) tracks needed two CDs and they are:
1) Ash
2) Seven
For Lee
3) 1212
4) Baker’s
Treat
5) Has Riff
6) Kings
& Queens
7) Sideburn
8) Two Down
9) Kite
Runner
10) Strange Comfort
These are original composition by the band members and
unless you like your laidback Jazz this slow, you will not enjoy this very
much. I hoped it would pick up at some
point, but it is one of the most boring such concerts of many such we have
heard around here in a while. They have
talent, but simply are not for everyone.
Making it more difficult is the rather limited and
somewhat compressed PCM 2.0 16bit/44.1kHz Stereo sound, which is not up to the
high standards of the DTS DVDs in this series by a longshot. Considering this was taped December 12th,
2005, that is really bad. For diehard
Jazz fans only!
