The King Of Queens – 5th
Season

We have seen recent situation comedies on TV than The
King Of Queens, but it is light comedy at best that got the show as far as
this 5th Season, now on DVD with all 25 shows. Kevin James is the delivery man and title
character who might also be dubbed the “mayor’ for all practical purposes. He has a caring wife (the likable Leah
Remini) and houseguest-as-semi-father figure Arthur (Jerry Stiller in comedy
mode as usual) makes up his home base, though Queens, New York is his
playground.
There is even chemistry between the cast members, but the
show is urban-lite comedy at best, riding on formula and slyly exploiting the
personalities and comic talents of its cast.
It is a little better than Everybody Loves Raymond, the
ever-obnoxious now-wrapped-up hit this is a spin-off from, but it really one of
those too-safe comedies that is a hit because of that. It is also an acquired taste that happens to
be a big hit.
The 1.33 X 1 image is soft, but has much of its good color
in tact. This set is said to be
mastered in HD, even if it was not shot that way. The case also says Dolby Surround, but the Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo has very weak surrounds. There
are no extras, though the DigiPak foldout has a little booklet that lists all
the episodes.
