Dr. Andrew Weil’s
Healthy Aging (Acadia)

If I see one more show about aging, I am going to buy a
cryogenic chamber, because some of these shows are still in some way the kind
of strange “feel good” exercise that Ed Norton’s character in David Fincher’s Fight
Club (1999) enjoyed being victimized by.
Dr. Andrew Weil’s Healthy Aging is such a program, though it may
be valuable later, do I want to see this now?
For those who do, the 85 minutes here that have already
made it to PBS are just fine, with good advice and thoughts on the
subject. Weil is no dummy, but this can
have a tendency to run on, especially since the extras are just more of him
talking! So at least you know what
you’ll get if you pick this disc up, but he is at least consistent.
The 1.33 X 1 image is shot on professional analog NTSC
video and fares just fine, but the Dolby Digital 2.0 is a very weak stereo and
you should be warned about not having the volume up too loud when finished
watching the program. It could cause
equipment damage and ear aches under certain circumstances.
