Now that
two of our other critics have taken on the follow-up seasons of Kids In The Hall, would I notice any
changes or progress when jumping directly to the Complete Season Four? Not really.
Dave Foley, Bruce McCullogh, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott
Thompson were still cross-dressing their way through most of the skits and
though the audience was laughing, that alone was never funny to me.
The 1992
– 1993 season offered 20 more shows, but they are not that much different from
the first season and unless you really like this comedy, any box set should be
sufficient to meet your Kids needs.
Sure, the cast has talent, but doing the same thing over and over holds
them back, but the show was a hit and Lorne Michaels just loves to hold on to a
hit playing it out to the hilt. Fans
will be happy this season has arrived.
The 1.33
X 1 full frame image originated on NTSC professional analog and shows its age
even three seasons later, with the kind of softness expected from a production
of its time. The show is colorful and
creatively shot, which makes it easier to watch, so I will give it credit for
some good form. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
has no Pro Logic surround information, but is good for what it is. It is good for its time and considering it
was from TV. Extras include text
biographies of the cast on DVD 1, with DVD 4 offering the rest, including
trailers, stills, audio commentary samples and a best of Seasons 2 – 4
compilation featurette.
