One For The Money – The Birth Of Rock ‘N’ Roll (Passport)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: C+     Main Program: B-

Though the story used to be told often and all the time, in part to sell records, you do not hear the story about the early days of Rock like you used to.  Though it is old, One For The Money – The Birth Of Rock ‘N’ Roll is a decent variation of the story with interviews with all kinds of fans, scholars and the occasional star like the late founder of Sun Records, Sam Phillips.

Though it is not long (under an hour) and there is so much more to be said, this version still says more than enough that seems to be almost censored music and pop culture history.  If you like music, especially Rock, you need to see this program at least once just to be in the know.

The 1.33 X 1 image is a mix of color videotape and black and white film, with stills and all are softer than one would want, but that is just the way it is.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 is monophonic the sound is weak often.  Extras include eight bonus music performances by the likes of Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers and Little Richard, Bill Haley & The Comets and Ricky Nelson, plus a newsreel featuring Elvis Presley.
