Leo Kottke – Home &
Away Revisited (Acoustic Guitar)

Leo Kottke is a musician of great reputation among other
musicians and has remained an independent force in music for a few decades
now. After issuing many albums, Home
& Away Revisited offers an impressive 1988 performance in front of a
live audience that combines amazing guitar playing with jokes and stories that
show he is a true original in music.
The best way to describe the man’s music is that it is
Folk and Country with some Rock edge and even Bluegrass speed where
applicable. Some of the songs are new,
while none are known hits, but some are fan favorites and not being deep into
this genre am certain I am missing out on something. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about any knowledge or
pretense, because Kottke is immediately enjoyable and his wit is reason alone
to get this DVD. His musicianship is
likely to make you keep it.
The 1.33 X 1 image is softer than it should be for an NTSC
production of any period, including some hazing and slight digital breakup
throughout. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo has hardly any surrounds, so the combination is dated and a bit
problematic. Extras include a
songs-only option, a list of Kottke’s album releases and section where Kottke
visits the same guitar shop form the main program in a different form.
