Now!

Russell Peters is a possibly up and coming comic
talent. A Canadian with ancestry
hailing from India, he has come up with a unique and smart set of comedy
routines and jokes that may not have made me laugh so hard I fell out of my
chair, but I was amused. Russell
Peters – Comedy Now! is a new DVD with two tapings of Peters running 47
minutes each. One is the title show
from 2003 and the other called Show Me The Funny is from 1997.
The jokes include those on cultural differences,
interesting takes on homophobia and conflicts outside of North America for
humor that most comics would not even begin to think of. I have to say that it is surprising we have
not heard some of these jokes before, but Peters needs to find new ways to turn
his talents up to the next level and the two shows show his growth as a pure
comic talent. They also show he has not
reached his peak yet and could eventually be a big breakout star.
The 1.33 X 1 image is not bad, but not great, originating
in professional NTSC analog videotape, but it is just fine for what it is. The Dolby Digital 2.0 is simple stereo in
both cases, with Peter’s voice the main focus, of course, but there are no
extras.
