The Corrs – Home (CD)
Sound: B Music:
C+
The Corrs are responsible for one of the most annoying,
obnoxious, tired, overplayed, whinny, dreadful, awful hit singles since the
1980s: Breathless. If anything,
it set them back for more hits and they likely know it. The quasi-yodeling and mind-numbing
quasi-Soft Rock drumbeat that opened the song was always a reason to change the
radio channel, cable music channel or take a toilet break. Even possible suicide could intervene. Well, the band is back and Home
(2006) is a serious rollback to traditional Irish work. The songs include:
My Lagan Love
Spaneill Hill
Peggy Gordon
Black Is The Colour
Heart Like A Wheel
Buachaill On Eirne
Old Hag
Moorlough Shore
Old Town
Dimming Of The Day
Brid Og Ni Mhaille
Haste To The Wedding
Well, this is all an improvement, if a step backwards into
doing anything progressive or memorable.
It is competent and sincere in the coverage of the Jean Corr songbook,
but this will not be for everyone, though Enya fans will enjoy it. The PCM 2.0 16bit/44.1kHz Stereo is just
fine for a new recording, if nothing spectacular. The booklet included has lyrics and some other technical
information, but nothing by way of the history in the text. Guess you’ll have to search the web for that
information. Get this one at your own
risk.
