Captain Jack (1998)

Bob Hoskins tries to get a film in here and there for a
family audience and Captain Jack (1998) is one of those, where he takes
on some kids (and the title role) in a comic adventure where he tries to
re-sail and retrace the voyage of Captain Scoresby and Captain Cook so he can
join their legacy. This is a silly film
and never takes itself seriously enough to make the adventure aspect work. However, young children might enjoy it and
Hoskins carries most of the film.
The 1.33 X 1 image is on the soft side and lacks detail
and some depth. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo has no surrounds, despite being a Dolby theatrical release, so we can
safely conclude that this transfer is at least a generation down. Text biographies of the actors are the only
extra.
