Street Fighter – Alpha: Generations

Some franchises just do not fade away, even when you think
they have. After he feature films and
massive video game success of Street Fighter has long since peaked, the
animated versions just keep on coming.
Manga Video has issued Street Fighter – Alpha: Generations, a 45
minutes-long exercise in m ore people kicking and punching more people. As a prequel work to a sequel work, it is
very easy to be lost very quickly as this is meant pretty much for fans.
Whether this prequel was necessary, only a fan could tell
you, but this need to “fill in spaces” just to make a buck usually
backfires. However, some fans just
can’t get enough and the franchise is still alive enough to convince Capcom to
create this program. Though it has some
money in it animation wise, I was quickly bored and could have cared less who
used the forbidden power or how senior citizens could suddenly become Bruce Lee
with magic powers. Only diehard fans
need apply.
Speaking of quality, the 1.33 x 1 image is not bad, though
I was not happy with the muted color scheme throughout. Detail is not great, nor is it intended to
be, but this looks fine for what was intended.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is the highlight of the disc by default. The combination is not bad, yet as refined
as it can be, still seems a tad dated.
Extras include trailers for other Manga DVDs and “inside the actor’s
voice studio” featurette on the voicing of the cartoon running just over 12
minutes.
