Super Dragon – The Bruce Lee Story

Now a weird novelty, the 1976 Super Dragon – The Bruce
Lee Story starred Bruce Li (the best known of his many pseudonyms) as Lee
in a story very, very loosely based on his life. It was a quickie and thirty years later and one film much better
on the subject (Dragon with Jason Scott Lee), it has aged very, very
badly and was designed to squeeze out the last dollars it could out of a cycle
of Martial Arts films that were on the decline.
The film tries to show us the “inside story’ of lee’s
life, but is so full of it that it is good for gags at best. Now that Lee is more popular than ever,
this is a curio at best. However, the
various aspect ratios of the film (unsqueezed credits, pan and scan for the
rest of the film) is annoying and the condition of the transfer and print is
awful. The dubbed Dolby Digital 2.0
Mono is bad, bit was not expected to ever be good, so anyone with big
expectations will be disappointed. There
are no extras either, which is no surprise.
Only the ultra curious should apply.
