In his time not too long ago, Tom Green pushed the
envelope of good taste and absurdity all the way to obscenity. Though he surfaced in several other TV shows
and even a few films, his Tom Green Show was still the primary place he
built his reputation of ill repute.
This new 3 DVD set has all 26 episodes in all their organic glory and is
amusingly named Inside & Outside The Box as if any of this took much
thought.
As I watched, I realized just how dated this has become as
being crude outright has become the exception, not the rule. As a matter of fact, Green might not be able
to make it in the cruder world of today with the same material, succeeded by
the likes of Jackass and having some personal off-screen problems of his
own. Now, it plays as nostalgia for a
small crowd who still finds him funny.
The 1.33 x 1 image was shot cheaply on professional and
consumer NTSC videotape and is lucky to have aged as well as it has. The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is barely stereo
and is lucky to be as clear as it is.
The only extra is an hour of unseen footage for fans who love the
shows. The majority of us can just skip
it.
