Seesaw (U.K. Mini-Series)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: B-

A rich family has their daughter kidnapped and the fallout and unexpected twists make Seesaw a very interesting mini-series.  David Suchet is the moneyman head of the family, money that gets his daughter kidnapped for ransom.  For those expecting him to turn into Hercule Poirot, I am happy to report this is not the case.  Instead, dysfunctional & criminal behavior almost merger as the kidnapping couple get moiré romantically involved and makes for an interesting show indeed.  I am surprised this has not had a U.S TV remake, so see it before that happens.  I’ll add that the rest of the cast of little known actors are very good and the 151 minutes never sag.

The 1.66 X 1 letterboxed image is not bad, the aspect ratio so many filmed British TV productions were shooting at until 1.78 X 1 was settled on.  Though it takes place in Scotland story-wise, it was shot in Britain by Chris Seager, B.S.C. with a bit of form that helps the narrative.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has enough Pro Logic surrounds to enjoy it, though there was a few sound flaws which mean you should not play the episodes at high volumes.  The only extra is text on the cast, but Seesaw is worth a look.
