The House On Sorority Row

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: D     Film: C

We have had some good films about groups of evil girls in school, including Carrie, maybe Satan’s Cheerleaders or original telefilm Satan’s School For Girls, endless witches coven films and even a strong episode of Barnaby Jones worked with this theme.  Mark Rosman’s The House On Sorority Row is not up to snuff, even when the girls are snuffing out other girls who they do not like.  It came out in 1983 after too many slasher films and could not decide if it was part of the cycle or some throwback.

The result is a confused, dumb film that has a better cover than story.  The acting is lame and most important, there is no chemistry between the cast of ladies who seem like “some gals” who were just available.  The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 x 1 image is very aged looking with bad color, detail and depth, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is very flat and dull.  Only an original theatrical trailer is included, which makes the film look more promising (surprise!) than it turned out to be.
