After a fiasco over Full Moon’s catalog with one time
distributor Paramount Home Video, the company has been trying to keep their
rogue’s gallery of killer characters alive.
When Puppets & Dolls Attack! (reviewed elsewhere on this
site) was more honest about it, but the two quasi feature projects Retro
Puppet Master and Curse Of The Puppet Master are trying to pass
themselves off as the original feature films that created the cult fan base and
tie-ins that followed.
However, they are silly half-witted variations of the
originals and one would have more fun watching their favorite killer puppet and
staring at it for 90 minutes with an instrumental soundtrack for the older
films on CD than put up with these sloppy second helpings that do not do a
great job of rally making up for the originals not being on the market.
The 1.33 X 1 video and simple Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo add
no more, with Curse being credited as recorded in something called “DX
Stereo” that adds nothing to a score with lack of surrounds. Extras are few on both are the same
trailers, 20 minutes “Videozone” featurette and notes. Only die-hard fans need apply.
