Dears:  Volume 2 – 2nd Contact (Animé TV)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C     Episodes: C

One of the weaker, sillier Geneon Animé TV shows we have seen continues to be Dears, a show about a guy who brings home a female alien from a spacecraft that crashed into Tokyo Bay.  Though this could have been a funny and smart show if the idea had been executed right, the 16 and over production is more about sex jokes, body image and playing with breasts.  In the next episodes, things get worse:

5)     Partners

6)     I’m Frustrated

7)     Pervert

The shows are dumber than those titles, which says something.  This is also a full-frame 1.33 X 1 production with simple stereo Dolby Digital 2.0 sound in English or Japanese that has no distinctive look over similar shows.  The look of the show actually abuses the “soft white” cliché more than expected and becomes quite annoying.  Except for a lame foldout and a few Geneon trailers, the only true extra are the end credits minus text.  Skip this one too.
