The Steve Heckman Quartet – Live At Yoshi’s
Sound: B Music:
B
For all the Jazz material we get, the live product is
usually on DVD, while all the CDs are studio recordings. The Steve Heckman Quartet – Live At
Yoshi’s is one of the rare (maybe first) exception to this, with Heckman’s
saxes joined by Matt Clark’s piano, Karen Horner’s bass and Jemal Ramirez’s
drums, has a very layered sound that suggests more musicians than are actually
there. That’s not a bad thing and the
songs are as follows:
1) Soul
Eyes
2) Equinox
3) You’re A
Weaver Of Dreams
4) Ode To
The Sunsinger
5) This Is
The Moment
6) Theosphere
7) Blame It
On My Youth
8) Deomde
Half are classics, the other half Heckman originals. No track is shorter than 6.5 minutes and
this is fine overall. The PCM 2.0 16bit/44.1kHz
Stereo may sound slightly muddy, but that has more to do with the limitations
of the sound format than the recording.
Too bad this was not an SACD. www.steveheckman.com is the place to go
for more information and to find out how to order this interesting Jazz work.
