The San Francisco
ChamberJazz Quartet (SFCJQ) [CD]

What do you get when a group of talented musicians get
together and change an established act so much that they decide to change their
name and go into a new direction. That
is exactly what happened to The Gini Wilson Quartet recently when they decided
to rename themselves The San Francisco ChamberJazz Quartet and SFCJQ
is their second CD release, though calling it a sophomore effort might be
problematic since they have been around a while. Jackie Ryan offers vocals on some of the tracks.
Her singing is nice and different, never throwing off the
pace of the 12 originals featured here.
The PCM 2.0 16Bit/44.1kHz Stereo sometimes has a sense of harshness, but
is fine otherwise. The album is solid,
though not spectacular, meaning someone who does not love or play Jazz all the
time might not find it distinctive, but it is good and at www.chamberjazz.com, you can learn more
about it and even order it.
