Margaret Cho –Assassin (Concert)

As political as ever, Margaret Cho is on the loose and in
Washington D.C. of all places for Assassin, a bold, timely, important,
blatant stand-up comedy concert that was taped after the Hurricane Katrina
disaster. If you think the media is
really telling you everything and is fair, balanced and liberal, then you
should not be offended or shocked by anything Miss Cho would have to say. However, there are more than enough
hypocrites and those more than comfortable in a new reactionary blanket of
hate, racism, discrimination and institutionalize white supremacy that you will
not see this concert or just about anything else from Cho on TV.
OK, so you say she is so outrageous that she would only be
on cable, but that’s just an excuse to censor (and likely form those who
self-censor too much). In real life,
she should be the phenomenal success, not just a limited (and strange, mixed)
success like Ellen DeGeneres, who is too safe for her and our own good. But the more you suppress something, the
more likely it is going to come back to haunt you and Cho is hitting the nail
on the head of just about everything The Bush Administration is rolling
back. The muddying and outright halting
of all kinds of hard-won civil rights, including many that were always
guaranteed by The Constitution they suddenly want to ignore or negate. After watching the nearly 85 minutes, I
realized she may be the next big thing yet if enough people want it. Then, that would mean they were
overwhelmingly sick of the Bush Era.
Check out this great stand-up concert and see why.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1/16 X 9 taped image is
a little softer than it should be, but is more than watchable as much as if it
were a taped 1.33 x 1 presentation. The
Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is good, but no real surrounds are present, though Cho is
clear and just fine. Extras include Cho
belly dancing, a brief tribute to Cho, opening act Bruce Daniels’ entire
stand-up routine, good Invisible Son short, stills an d computer
animated Music Video. All around, one
of the most well rounded comedy DVD releases to date.
