Elkie Brooks Live

Elkie Brooks is a vocalist who is a success in Europe, but
not big in The United States. In
watching Elike Brooks Live, a performance of her’s from the German
series Music Laden, all I could think of was Tina Turner trapped in her
Late 1970s Las Vegas mode. Here is a
woman with obvious vocal talent who can deliver good vocals, but the
arrangements and material hold her back in what feels like late 1970s
malaise. The 45 minutes of songs
include:
1) I’m
Gonna Make You Love Me
2) Be
Positive
3) Rich
Man’s Woman
4) Live,
Laugh & Love
5) Mojo
Hannah
6) Tore
Down
7) Sophisticated
Lady
8) Lilac
Wine
9) Mercedes
Benz
10) Saved
Some of those are fine songs, but they never seem to
attain the breakout they should considering her talent. The 1.33 x 1 image I a few generations down,
as is the Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono, so that does not help. Even if this one got the DTS treatment Music
Laden manages to get from Classic that would not help the content
problems. That leaves Elike Brooks
Live an interesting miss. Extras
include previews for other Quantum Leap DVDs, weblinks and bio/discography text
on Brooks. Maybe some other material of
her work will show up on DVD, and when it does, we’ll be anxious to compare.
