The Prophecy: Forsaken (Part 5)

Picture: C     Sound: B-     Extras: C-     Feature: C-

Was the first Prophecy with Christopher Walken really that big of a Horror film that it needed four sequels?  I doubt it.  The Prophecy: Forsaken (2005, though not listed on any part of the packaging or DVD itself, nor that it is a part five) has forsaken its star, Jason Scott Lee.  A fine dramatic actor, Hollywood (and racism has something to do with this) just does not want to deal with his true acting talent, so they have relegated him to the action genre and to see him in straight-to-video junk like this is very disheartening.

Joel Soisson, who is also hacking out bad scripts for the Hellraiser DVD sequels, actually directs this mess and a little girl dies at the beginning in a stupid way that shows how bankrupt this production and Soisson’s work is.  This time, everyone is after The Lexicon, a magic document that gives its possessor power.  Too bad it does not have the power to make this necessary or watchable.  You would be better off seeing the 1979 John Frankenheimer film of the same name.  At least it is entertaining.  Let’s hope Lee finds a better film to bring him and his career back.  We all deserve better than this.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is surprisingly soft, with weak video black.  The color is lame beyond the Horror look.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is pumped up so you will not notice how bad Joel Soisson’s script is.  In the extras, he joins two others form the crew to try to explain this mess.  Try not to fall asleep.
