Mariah Carey – Music
Box Biographical Collection

So far in the strange Music Box Biographical Collection,
we have looked at the installments featuring Kurt Cobain, Paul McCartney and
George Harrison. Mariah Carey is a very
different artist and singer from the previous subjects, but once again, you get
a collage of old footage only using about 25% of the screen when it shows the
footage through its drawing of a television.
Running a lousy less-than-40 minutes, very little footage
of Carey is featured, but the most unintentionally funny thing is having all
these British people tell us about her life and career as if she came from
England. It’s as if Mariah has the same
appeal as David Hasselhoff has in Germany, except she is a worldwide music
sensation. Now that she made her
comeback, this is already getting dated.
The full frame 1.33 X 1 image looks forced and phony, with
much softness throughout. The PCM 2.0
sound is weak and even with no original music licensed, it might as well have
been Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono. There are
no extras and not even a menu. You are
better off watching Glitter!
