Kenny
Carr – Friday At Five (CD)
Sound: B Music:
B-
Kenny Carr was blues guitarist for Ray Charles for ten
years, and you get the feeling he likes what he does from Friday At Five,
a CD release of a set of 1997 recordings of Carr and friends laying down some
tracks for the fun of it. Finally
released for the first time, it is a Jazz album with a difference, almost a
“garage band” equivalent of what you could one expect from Rock in its peak. The technical recording may show its age,
but it has its energy on the following tracks:
1) New York
Shuffle
2) Ray's
Riff
3) Gramercy
Groove
4) Movin'
On
5) Friday
At Five
6) Coast-To-Coast
7) Exit 16
8)
Fly Away
9)
Santa Cruzin’
Though it is ultimately uneven, there are Jazz fans who
will want to hear the whole thing, especially at a time before the Internet
made such albums more possible with that type of marketing as its intent,
skipping the major labels. The PCM 2.0
16Bit/44.1kHz Stereo is fine for the circumstances it was taped under, as rich
and full as expected for its age. If
you want to hear some of the tracks for yourself, find out more about Carr, the
album and how to order, go to:
