Silk Stalkings – The Complete Third Season may
have continued to be a hit for Stephen J. Cannell, but the show started to run
into trouble, which eventually sent it into syndication. Holding too much onto its formula, the
adventures in Palm Beach, Florida of homicide detectives Rita Lance (Mitzi
Kapture) and Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes) started to repeat itself and the idea
that they were protecting the rich elite and sexual elite for that matter
started to strain what limited credibility it had.
To get this out of the way, the 22 shows here are as
follows, including notable guest stars, with John Byner and Mitzi McCall still
surfacing often:
1) Team
Spirit
2) The
Perfect Alibi
3) To Serve

At this point, the budgets were leveling off and the show
was being given just enough to be made competently every week. A sense of boredom was beginning to show and
why no new twists in the general life and times of the leads or Palm Beach was
a big mistake. In the case of this
season, only diehard fans need apply.
The first episodes does a sloppy Basic Instinct-like opening that
does not work or set a good opening tone for the season. Not taking risks was a missed opportunity
that would eventually hurt the show in the long run.
The full frame 1.33 X 1 image has some detail limits, but
looks good and color rich for its age.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has Pro Logic surrounds for the first time
and they are not bad, though the Mike Post score is mixed at best. This time, there are absolutely no extras,
which says something about how the show was going on automatic pilot. The six DVDs again come in three
slendercases and the idea of being able to put in two per case still works very
nicely. Try the earlier seasons first,
both reviewed elsewhere on this site.
