Hollywood Couples: Marilyn Monroe/Joe DiMaggio

The DVDs on Marilyn Monroe keep on coming, this time in a
50 minutes-long program on her relationship with Joe DiMaggio, who become one
of her husbands in her all too short life.
This is a good, competent, but too-short itself program explaining their
careers before getting into their meeting and relationship. Though it is worth seeing, when it was all
over, one wishes it had more to offer about the two together and was more
concerned with staying within a time period than telling its story.
There are few interviews, while the rest of the program is
composed of movie trailers, stills and newsreels. At least the chronology is good.
The majority of the show is in the 1.33 X 1 full frame image, with
little letterboxing. The picture
quality of from old analog NTSC tape and was made a good few years ago. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is a bit better,
varied and also shows its age. The
combination is passable, as it is on the half-hour Hollywood Remember
Marilyn Monroe featurette. That
even has more letterboxed footage than the main program. Three newsreels are also included.
