New Getter Robo – The Yin-Yang Master (Volume 2/Animé TV)

Picture: B-     Sound: B-     Extras: C+     Episodes: C+

New Getter Robo has three more shows to offer in the second volume of episodes on DVD.  This surprisingly violent comedy action series remains like few we have seen in all the Animé shows we have seen for this site to date.  The Yin-Yang Master is consistent with the characters, machines and monsters that makes the series a 16+ age group release.  The excessive blood continues, despite it being comic book blood with a rubbery form of the animation.

The tale that began in the lab of Dr. Saotome has now progressed into all out battles.  With the monsters continually at large, that gives the show opportunities for more violence, but the story has not improved and does not seem to know where to go.  The shows here are:

5) Oni Fire

6) The Mansion Where The Oni Dwell

7) The Yin-Yang Master

Only the introduction of a new person to fight makes the slightest difference, and you get more fighting.  For die-hard fans only.

The anamorphically enhanced 16 X 9/1.78 X 1 image is again pretty good, with occasional patches of obvious videotape work and animation that is not highly detailed, yet often dark.  Color and clarity are good too.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in English or Japanese again has decent Pro Logic surrounds, though the music is no better than last time.  Extras include three previews for other Geneon titles, opening credits without text and a music video.  They are captioned.  New Getter Robo disappoints, getting repetitious, not better, as it is now progressing.  Can it save itself by the next DVD?
