If you are in desperate need of a good laugh, than you
might want to check out the preposterous documentary The Secret of the Holy Grail, which even despite all its attempts
to be serious, turns out to be so ridiculous that it almost puts Monty Python’s and the Holy Grail to
shame. As a matter of fact I almost now
see why the Python’s were able to create the sketches that they did and that
was purely derived from the legends and myths that have stirred about over the
centuries of the Holy Grail, which is said to possibly be the cup of Christ,
which unlocks secretive powers and brings suffering to the dark side. Sounds to me like you want the Holy Grail in
exchange for a Light Saber.
There is a big difference these days between religious,
beliefs, faith, and spiritual matters.
Christianity is the belief in Christ, who was born as the Son of God and
was sent to save the world from sin.
His death on the cross made up for the sins of the world and whoever
believes in him shall receive eternal life, not eternal death. It is the belief in Christ that gives this
and nothing else. Worshipping anything
but God is against the very basis of Christianity. Therefore, whether it be Saints, or Priests, or Tarot cards, or
false idols, or even a Holy Grail, there is no point in treating these things
as God or in place of God. So the very
search for a Holy Grail is just ridiculous because there is no need. Everything that you need in order to be set
free is having a personal relationship with Christ.
So why are people in search of such an object? Well, people will pretty much flock to
anything that will give them an easy out or perhaps just the thrill of looking
for something. The businesses that are
set up in England near places where the Grail is said to be have made profits
in the game as tourist and searchers come and go looking for the Grail, what a
true shame.
For this DVD issue from BFS The Secret of the Holy Grail is broken down into three episodes: The Legacy of the Goddess, The Treasure of
the Heretics, and The Curse of the
Knights of the Holy Grail. This
2-Disc set also contains three additional extra features, which are The
Traditional Grail Story, A Controversial Theory of the Grail, and Mystical
Grail Facts. There is no doubt that
after indulging in this set that you will know more about the grail than you
ever hoped or wanted to and if you buy into its mysticism than hooray for
you.
I suppose that you if you really into history and legends
than this might appeal to you and that’s just fine, but it’s too bad that some
people spend their entire lives believing in such trivial things that have
little to do with their existence in general.
It sounds more like a claim to find easy money or easy power, which is
the root of evil when not handled properly.
As for this set the picture is a block style 1.33 X 1 full
frame transfer that has the typical problems associated with analog turned
digital. While I had no luck in finding
much information regarding this program it would seem that it was intended for
TV purposes and that explains some of the poorness in the detail
throughout. Edge enhancement is
constantly a factor and softness is abundant.
While this is more noticeable based on your TV setup I almost wonder if
this was taken from a PAL source to begin with. The sound is a fair Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track that is as
basic as they come.
There is little else to really be said about this DVD set
other than any inclination to purchase it would highly be based upon your
interest in the actual content. If you
are a skeptic than you will certainly want to steer clear and if you are open
to new ideas and philosophies from old fables and such than you are too
vulnerable for this type of content and I’d advise staying clear in that
case. BFS did a good job in the
presentation here based on what they had to work with and hopefully they will
continue their level of standards to the point that they can start having a
more reputable catalog of titles.
