Ana Popovic – Ana! (Concert)
Picture: C+
Sound: B- Extras: C+ Concert: B-
Ana Popovic is a guitarist/vocalist in the Blues/Jazz mode
doing what she can to make a name for herself and maybe have some commercial
crossover success. Ana! is a new
concert DVD taped at The Melkweg in Amsterdam, The Nederlands, designed to show
off her and her band to be advantage.
The set here includes:
1) Don’t
Bear Down On Me
2) Sittin’
On Top Of The World
3) Love Me
Again
4) Comfort
To The Soul
5) Hometown
6) Navajo
Moon
7) Night By
Night
8) Bigtown
Playboy
9) Won’t
Let You Down
10) Jaco
11) Long Way Home
12) My Man
The set is played with energy and bravado, but the lyrics
are only so memorable, though she has been around since 2000 and may just be
getting warmed up. These are not always
my favorite music genres, but this is still well done. Her ambition makes up for any shortcomings
and we can expect to see more artistic growth down the line. Popovic is in the right direction.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image extends to the
three extras segments, but the actual show has a strange look that has some
detail limits mixed with a slight haze.
This is not the case on the bonus video. The sound is here in PCM 2.0 16Bit/48kHz Stereo and Dolby Digital
5.1, both of which are no bad, though the Dolby has a slight edge here. The songs in the extras are only in PCM, but
none are in DTS, and that is a shame.
Those extras include a stills section that show how attractive Miss
Popovic is, a 6+ minutes acoustic session featuring Long Last Love and Damn
Your Eyes, a 3+ minute acoustic performance solo of Done Somebody Wrong
in Amsterdam and an interview (14:11) with Popovic that is pleasant and allows
her to discuss her thoughts on music and growing up. That makes for a well-rounded introduction to her work.
