The Three Amigos –
Outrageous! (Stand-Up Comedy)
Picture: C+

Stand-up comedy has become it own subgenre thanks to years
of censorship-free cable programming, but the occasional theatrical film
release shows up just the same. The
Three Amigos – Outrageous! is a recent and shockingly brief 74 minutes with
Carlos Mencia, Pablo Francisco and Freddie Soto. Despite the R-rating, the program is not as shocking and
politically incorrect enough as it should have been.
The jokes sometimes bring a smile to ones face, but unless
you are really set up for a certain kind of humor, this feature will not
impress you much. It is not that the
title comics are unfunny or untalented, but that they do not go far enough,
feel like they are winging it too much and should have been much funnier
considering how short this was. They
are names to be on the lookout for, but I can see why this did not get a wide
release. Miramax at least issued it,
but better luck next time for the trio.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is not the
greatest, lacking detail, but is sufficient for the stand-up routines. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is about as good
as Dolby can be for comedy like this.
There are no extras either, so this is a very basic disc. I guess director C.B. Harding had nothing to
say or Miramax just wanted to get it issued.
