Red Green’s We Can’t Help It – We’re Men (Acorn DVD)

The latest volume in the Acorn Media releasing of the Red
Green TV show is We Can’t Help It – We’re Men and it is the funniest
of them yet. The main show is about “guy
things” and how doing such activities seem to go wrong, and are always
predictable when they go right. The
differences between the sexes are an ongoing joke on the show, but it is
usually to the men’s detriment. This
show is the best expansion of that yet.
Much of this comes from the fictional segment “Handyman
Corner” offering as much dysfunctional advice and the endless virtues of using
duct tape as a no-brainer way to get through life and hope things hold
together. Another item worth noting is
that the concept of being a “redneck” does and does not differ from the U.S.
and Canada, but some of the could-care-less approaches share common
denominators that easily cross the border.
The 1.33
X 1 NTSC image is once again adequate throughout. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo is also adequate, but has silly music and no surround information in all
these cases too. Extras on this latest single DVD include the hilarious
71-minutes-long compilation Of Cars & Men, a half-hour of other
materials split into 12 segments. It
could be argued that the extras surpass the main program in both content and
laughs, and not just because it runs longer.
It is just the material clicks together better. We now recommend this title as the one anyone
who has not seen the show should catch first, because it is the best
introduction to it.
