Kathy Griffin – Allegedly

No one goes after stars and media figures quite like Kathy
Griffin. She takes no prisoners, is
politically incorrect in the best tradition of great comedy, and is in prime
form in the hysterical new release: Allegedly. Now out on DVD, this terrific 2004 stand-up piece is one of the
very best ever issued on home video, proving that Griffin can go a few rounds
with anyone in the business. Though I
am often a fan of those she targets, taking swipes at stars and politicians is
a serious tradition in the United States, especially in any free society.
Running an intensely funny 90 minutes, Griffin takes the
stage with her sights set on her dealings with stars recently and her trip
overseas to support the troops. The VH-1
Fashion Awards, The View with and without Barbara Walters, Gwyneth
Paltrow/Stella McCartney, Brooke Shields’ wedding, the Michael
Douglas/Catherine Zeta Jones marriage and much more offer the fodder for her
rampage. Kathy is on a roll and if you
like comedy and are sick of bad movies that claim to “allegedly” be comedies,
you should seriously seek out and enjoy Allegedly. It is a winner and you have to see (she does
some funny physical comedy) and hear it to believe it.
The program, though recent, was still shot on full frame
professional analog NTSC video, which is fine for stand-up, but is becoming
less and less common. The Dolby Digital
2.0 Stereo has no surrounds, but is nice and clear, as any recent concert
should be. The only extra, which
Griffith narrates part of, is footage from her USO trip. Get this disc!
