Garfield and Friends – Volume 2
Picture: C
Sound: C Extras: D Program: A-
There are very few things that are left to say about
Garfield, since most of that was covered in either the review for Garfield and Friends Volume 1 or Garfield as Himself, which I have
covered on this site already. Rather
than release Garfield by season, Fox has been issuing them in volumes, which
combine the show similar to the way it was originally on TV with each episode
of Garfield separated by the U.S. Acres
portion.
Some of the segments here are better overall programs than
what Volume 1 had to offer, but my same complaints are in regard to the overall
presentation, which is original TV aspect ratio of 1.33 X 1 and Dolby Digital
2.0 English Mono, which could have been reintroduced in stereo to make things a
bit more even. It is hard to say what
the original condition of these cartoons are to begin with, but my speculation
is that much work would be needed to artificially ‘fix’ each episode to take
away blotches, scratches, and other debris that does appear here and
there. This is not to say that the
presentation looks terrible by any means, but it would take a lot of work to
bring it to pristine quality, which it may have never been to begin with.
Overall the colors look good and demonstrate a nice
balance considering this is a cartoon.
The audio as mentioned above it only in mono and has a bit too much
compression and added noise, but nothing extremely bad considering the programs
are dialogue heavy.
The only extra presented here is a trailer for the
Garfield Movie from 2004, which is almost a joke to be even considered part of
the Garfield franchise. I did enjoy
Volume 2 a bit more than Volume 1, mostly due to the increased humor in certain
episodes. Highlight episodes from the
24 total include:
Binky
Goes Bad!
Cactus
Makes Perfect
TV of
Tomorrow
Hamelot
Invasion
of the Big Robots
Hog Noon
Skyway
Robbery
And
Close Encounters of the Garfield Kind
If you remember the good ole days of Garfield like I do you
won’t have one problem with this set or Volume 1 for that matter. It would have been nice to see some extras
on these discs, considering they retail for a considerable lump some.
